LOTS Manager
The LOTS Manager reports to the LOTS Director and is responsible for
day-to-day operations of the LOTS computer facility,
budget planning and expenditures
planning software and hardware developments and their documentation,
supervision of operating system and applications software
developments,
supervision of the LOTS staff,
communicating with Stanford faculty about LOTS facilities
in software and hardware so as to initiate and improve
LOTS use in courses,
helping users convert their programs to LOTS, and
helping users write new applications.
Qualifications:
This position requires extensive background in computer
operating systems, assembly language programming, and applications
programming. Also, experience in computer systems operations, and
experience in management is necessary. Expertise in programming
PDP-10 and PDP-11 computers is required. Familiarity with the TENEX
operating system, and with the design and debugging of digital
computer hardware is desirable. This position is expected to require
significantly more attention than 40 hours per week.
LOTS Systems Programmer
The LOTS Systems Programmer reports to the LOTS Manager and will
assist the manager in systems programming, including:
planning software and hardware developments
designing and implementing changes to operating system and
and applications software,
writing documentation,
guiding projects undertaken by the student volunteers
helping users convert their programs to LOTS; helping
users write new applications
in the absence of the manager, supervising day-to-day operations
of the computer system.
Qualifications:
This position requires a significant background in computer
software. Previous PDP-10 (and TENEX) experience in assembly
language programming is desirable. A qualified applicant should be
capable of becoming expert in the internal workings of a variety of
programs including the operating system. Knowlege of computer
hardware design and debugging would be useful.
LOTS Student Coordinator
The student coordinator will coordinate and monitor the work of student
volunteers. The student coordinator will assign volunteers at the request
of the manager, and at the request of other LOTS users'.
He will co-ordinate making LOTS educationally effective for students
outside of courses.
LOTS Secretary
The duties of the LOTS Secretary will include various
computer related activities in addition to usual secretarial tasks.
The secretary is expected to use the LOTS computer for document and
report preparation, and to create computer accounts for new users.
The LOTS secretary will be expected to answer the computer related
questions commonly asked by new users, e.g., how to log into the
system, where to find documentation, etc. Other duties will include:
answering phones, serving as a receptionist,
answering routine inquiries,
answering computer-related inquiries,
making appointments, sorting mail, maintaining personnel files,
maintaining files of information using the computer system,
making travel arrangements, expense reports,
maintaining office supplies and some computer supplies,
maintaining petty cash fund, and
preparing purchase orders.
